| Julian Gino's and Mike
Cohan finished first in their Men's 1 drop down division. Christina
single handedly lead our woman's team to the gold champion round
with excellent individual performance all weekend - upsetting several
well seated woman's players. Jessica Ng and Julian also finished
strong in mixed doubles, especially impressive when considering
this was Jessica's first tournament. They won several key matches
before loosing in the finals. Individual Julian and Mike had a great
men's 1 performance. It was Julian's first time in men's 1, he had
one amazing upset victory in the first round over a tie breaker
before losing the to the tournaments top ranked male player. In
men's 2 Ryan Levering took 3rd place in the gold division, Mike
Pokora took 4th in men's blues. The men's 3 competitors Cory Johnson
and Andrew Runkel both did fantastic and made it to the finals in
the blue division in doubles. It was Cory's fist tournament ever
and he did great. Overall this tournament was a great success, especially
for the less experienced players. The team finished 6th overall,
which is the clubs best overall performance to date. |

Equestrian IHSA

@ Skidmore College
|
|
Competing as a club sport against Varsity teams can be discouraging
at times. In order to foster a positive atmosphere, the Equestrian
Club has set both personal and team goals that are attempted too
be attained each week. This past weekend (11/19/05 @ Skidmore
College) the Club accomplished two milestones...
Open rider Alison Levy won both of her classes surpassing the
#1 nationally ranked open rider from Skidmore College. This accomplishment
qualified her for High point rider of the day. Allison then competed
in a ride off (tie breaker), resulting in another victory, thus
making her Binghamton's first High Point Rider.
This in it's self is an enormous accomplishment for the club,
meaning it has also allowed the club another first. Out of 12
colleges/universities, 4 of which are Varsity, Binghamton was
Reserve High Point Team finishing with an overall second place
(previous best was 4th).
Congratulations Allision, Coach Tupy and all club participants
for making these milestones possible...

The Bearcats continued to play solid through the second period

Tournament in East Gym

The Binghamton University Fencing club hosted its second tournament
of the semester. It was a team styled with each team consisting
of a beginner, intermediate and advanced fencer. The tournament
promptly started at 9:00am with two BU foil teams, and two Oneonta
foil teams. Epee began at 11:00am with four teams, one each from
Binghamton, Johnson City, RIT, and Oneonta.
Throughout the tournament, you could hear the clicking and clacking
of weapons, clapping, cheering and yelling. For many of our beginners
this was their first tournament since joining the club. Foil went
especially well, our beginners were able to pull their own weight
just as much as their other team mates. The beginner Bruce Ng
helped keep his team in third place by closing an 11 point gap
between the other foil team. Epee was great, with Matt Sommerhalter
making quick points on his opponents, leading to his teams second
place victory. Sabre was also exciting, there was an instance
where the two BU teams were up against each other and it got so
intense that Carla Ziegler broke her sabre in half. Parents and
friends who attended said that they enjoyed the tournament so,
everyone who attended had a good time.

The men's team performed relatively poorly as compared to past tournaments.
This deficit was filled by a new player, Christina Vandling, who
in her first tournament appearance, took the top women's spot to
put Binghamton into fifth place overall, with only half the players
of a lot of the other teams. With more players and a better showing

3rd place in her class. The Novice division was next which is our
biggest division with three riders. Kelly Palmer started novice

Rabinowicz both had nice rides each far from our goal of breaking
20 points so we had a lot to make up for, which we did. The second
half of the show started with Open Flat where newcomer Alison Levy
placed 2nd giving the team 5 points. Next was Novice Flat where
each rider did very well. Kelly Palmer started the division off
with a good ride to a 3rd place finish. Cailin Elliot followed with

In Binghamton's
second league tournament they hoped to catch their first win playing
against Geneseo. Binghamton led after the first quarter. After
a terrific showing the game was tied going into the third where
a young and tired Binghamton team slowly collapsed. Against Syracuse
Binghamton field weak early but rallied in the third, but it was
to late to cite dropping an 11-5 decision.
Late at night against a veteran team, U of R. Binghamton showed
great promise with defense led by goalie Anto Deshcheko &
led defender Kerng Wong. After the third U of R lead 3-1 but after
a lite power play doal by David Bohr Binghamton University showed
hope, only to lose by 2. Against RIT Binghamton University looked
fresh, a great goal was scored but later the team gave up 6 goals. |

| The Binghamton Bearcats
Ice Hockey team opened its season with a 8-4 win over Rutgers Saturday
night. Binghamton controlled the play early on with their first
goal coming just 25 seconds into the game off a a low shot by Dave
Haase. The Bearcats continued to control the game and scored two
more goals creating an early 3-1 lead entering the first intermission.
Rutgers brought a physical game, but the Bearcats held their ground
and capitalized on the power-play several times throughout the game
including a point shot from defenseman Bryan Coughlin and two goals
from near the crease by Judson Dacher-Shapiro and Doug Centola (2).
The Bearcats also utilized their speed against Rutgers, scoring
several goals in transition. The defensive corps played well, and
goaltenders Adam Leach and Asher Blum both played solid each giving
up two goals. Other Bearcat goals were scored by Sean Marcel, Josh
Case and John Scavone. Binghamton's next game is home against Niagra. |

All I can say is that the score speaks for itself.
This one was one of the coldest games that we played. It was on
and off rain, and we played on Cornell's new pitch. Their teams
ran circles around us but we kept our spirits up and did not give
up. We played all our players and in the second half many rookies
played for the first time. The Cornell team had several interesting
moves and maybe we can replicate them in our games.

| This game was very disappointing.
I feel that we should have been able to win instead we suffered
an embarrassing defeat. Ithaca played one man down for 30 minutes
and was still able to beat us. As teams we're comparable in size
but they seemed to out run us. Luckily for the team, sophomore Tiffany
Chew was able to step into the gaping void left by the loss of Pam
Barone, and played admirably. Although the day was lost, the rise
of a new star was a defining moment.

This game was well played. We had some fantastically outstanding

were marvelous. The team worked well together to win after our
disappointing loss the previous week. This was an important victory
