SPRING 2004 RESULTS

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: May 3, 2004

CREW: (Philadelphia, PA ~ Thurs., May 6 to Sat., May 8, 2004) With 104 teams participating, the Dad Vail Regatta is the biggest event in the Spring for Binghamton Crew. Teams traveled as far West as California and as far South as Florida. Binghamton competes against some of the best Division I teams in the country here. The men's novice eight was the only boat to make it into the semi-finals from Binghamton this year. This was the 66th Annual Dad Vail National Championship Regatta.

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: APRIL 26, 2004

SOCCER (MEN'S): (Syracuse, NY ~ Saturday, May 1, 2004) A sunny day in the 70's made for a hot day on the playing surface at the 2nd annual Spring Tournament at Syracuse University. While RIT failed to show, the remaining teams agreed to play it out under the same conditions. Shortened games allowed the players to play multiple games in the afternoon.

The first match included host Syracuse versus Binghamton. A well played game resulted in a 0-0 tie for the two teams. Many attempts on goal flew just wide making for an impressive game to watch.

Albany came out after a 30 minute break between games to play Syracuse (do to Syracuse's abundance of substitutes). A goal in the first 5 minutes was all Albany needed to earn a win. A well placed chip over the keeper found the back right netting was the goal that did the trick.

Another 30 minute break and Albany (due to their win) took home honors over Binghamton. Another hard fought game began to show the effects of the heat with several Albany players being taken off. After dominating the entire game, a slip in defense in the last 2 minutes cost Binghamton a goal, and the game. Overall, BU tied Syracuse and lost to Albany 1-0.

LACROSSE (MEN'S): [CHAMPIONSHIP PICTURE] [SENIOR PICTURE] (Annapolis, Maryland ~ Sunday, May 2, 2004) "Dunn's Valiant efforts coupled with a powerful defensive stance and Savich's overtime goal give the Bearcats the 2004 NCLL National Championship."

Binghamton University Club Sports history was made this Sunday, May 2nd as the Binghamton University Lacrosse Club won its first ever National Collegiate Lacrosse League Championship. The Bearcats defeated Junior College and NCLL powerhouse Williamson Trade School (10-3 NCLL), 3rd in the nation, to clinch the over time victory.

Binghamton had an all to familiar start allowing three goals in the first quarter, going into the half down 4 goals with a score of 2-6. The Bearcats defense once again answered right back closing the door on the Williamson attack allowing only three goals in the second half. On the opposite side of the field junior attackmen James Savich (Binghamton, NY) netted a game high 4 goals including the overtime game winning shot to clinch the championship.

The Bearcats momentum began to build in the 2nd quarter when midfielder Mike Star (Baldwin, NY) caught an amazing behind the back pass from attackman Mark Sweeney (Farmingdale, NY) to shorten the Williamson lead. Lead by senior defenseman Ian Johnstone (Staten Island, NY), Vincent Maniscalco (Chester, NY), Greg Service, and Junior Defensive pole Greg Corbett the Bearcats defense was able to kill 3 man-down penalties allowing no man up goals to be scored by the Williamson attack.

Lead by an amazing defensive performance by goal tender Josh Dunn (St. Louis, Missouri) the Bearcats controlled the pace of the game in the 4th quarter. With less than 2 minutes to play the Williamson attack tied the game 9-9 forcing the game into sudden death overtime.

The Bearcats, having a man up advantage going into overtime looked to capitalize on the situation. It was a back and forth game for much of the overtime until junior attackman Anil Padeyedathu ripped a shot toward the Williamson Goalie which deflected off of his stick sending it into the air. Attackmen James Savich caught the ball and fired it into the net earning the BU Bearcats there first ever National Championship.

One Bearcat player noted:

"It goes to show what a team can really do when they come together and play their game. We had an amazing defensive game allowing only 3 goals in the second half. Our goalie, Josh Dunn, kept us in this game and allowed our attack to possess the ball and do what they do best, score."

The Bearcats finished the season with a record of (9-3 NCLL) (4-2 Empire East) and ended with a 7 game winning streak. They are currently ranked nationally as the #13th club team in the country. They look forward to next season and the opportunity to defend their National Championship.

LACROSSE (MEN'S): (Annapolis, Maryland ~ Saturday, May 1, 2004) "Star's go-ahead goal and MacEnaney's MVP performance send the Bearcats to the National Championship game."

The Binghamton University Men's Lacrosse Club advanced to the NCLL Championship game Saturday May 1st when they defeated The College of New Jersey (10-3 NCLL) by a score of 12-8 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Coming off of a slow start the Bearcats found themselves down by two goals at the half with a score of 4-6. The Bearcats defense quickly regained their composure and answered right back allowing only two goals in the 3rd and 4th quarters of the game, giving the BU attack enough time to win the game. It was a very physical game on the part of both teams, but in the end we kept our composure while they lost theirs.
Midfielder Mike Star (Baldwin, NY) gave the bearcats the go ahead goal which led to the win. Senior attackmen Edward (Ted) MacEnaney (Dix Hills, NY) had an amazing performance with a game high 4 goals to help clinch the victory. Attackmen Eric King (Averil Park, NY) and Mark Sweeney (Farmingdale, NY) both netted goals to help win the game.

The Bearcats will face Williamson Trade School, PA (11-3 NCLL) in the NCLL Finals.

OUTDOORS: (New Paltz, NY ~ May 1 to May 2, 2004) The Outdoors Club finished out the year on a bang. Five-(5) members of the club went climbing on saturday, camped out, hiked around Ver Nooy Kill State forest until Sunday morning, and then went over to a cave for three hours, and then returned late last night (Sunday, May 2, 2004).

ULTIMATE FRISBEE: (Geneva, NY~ May 1, 2004) The Ultimate Frisbee Club traveled to Hobart & William Smith College this past weekend. The club played four-(4) games and when the sun set, the club was undefeated for the weekend! BU beat SUNY Geneseo 10 to 6, beat Hobart and William Smith College 15 to 1, beat Clarkson University 15 to 4, and took the night cap with a 15 to 3 win over Nazareth College.

LACROSSE (MEN'S): "Men's Lacrosse Club redefines the phrase "raw talent…"

They said it could not be done. How could a team with no official coach, and only a handful of experienced players win a National Championship? Well on Saturday May 1st and Sunday May 2nd, the Binghamton University Men's Lacrosse Club defied the odds. The Men's Lacrosse Club redefined the phrase "Raw Talent" when they captured the 2004 NCLL National Championship for the first time in program history.

Co-President and defensive pole Vincent Maniscalco had no doubt in his mind that this team was going to win the championship this year.

"We had an excellent fall season with a record of 6-1, beating such teams as Hofstra, Cortland, and NYU, before falling 1 goal shy of an undefeated fall season to Columbia. Although we had a slow start in the beginning of our official season in the spring, losing the first three games, I knew that if we just settled down and played our game we would win."

That's just what the Bearcats did. Leading up to the playoffs they defeated Club lacrosse powerhouses Cornell, Hobart, and Ithaca to clinch a playoff birth. Once in the playoffs they defeated quarterfinal qualifiers Kutztown, PA (8-3 NCLL) to advance to the semi-finals.

Team Captain Edward (Ted) MacEnaney had this to say:

"Although we didn't play well, they played a lot worse, and we were able to capitalize on their mistakes."

The Bearcats advanced to the semi-final round to Play The College of New Jersey in Annapolis, MD.

LACROSSE (MEN'S): The Binghamton University Club Lacrosse team hosted a NCLL playoff game on Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at 6:00PM. The BU Club fans viewed a very intense, but physical game. Throughout the game, numerous Kutztown and BU players viewed the roots of the grass growing on the field. Kutztown scored the first goal of the game and BU answered right back. After four periods of play the score was tied 6 to 6. It took three overtimes for BU to clinch the win 7 to 6 (during a timeout in overtime two, the BU club was caught on tape discussing strategy). "The final play of the game resulted in sophmore Mark Sweeney running down the right sideline of the field to leave his feet and decleat number 2 from Kutztown University which resulted in the ball dropping to the ground. Sweeney picked up the ball ran towards the opponents goal, evading one defensive player and shot the ball to clinch the win to advance BU to the 2004 NCLL Final Four." The final four is being held on the United States Naval Academy base in Maryland. The dates of play are May 1, 2004 to May 2, 2004. [PICTURES]

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: APRIL 19, 2004

CREW: "Glen Island Park, New Rochelle, NY" This year's Metropolitan Regatta was quite the event for Binghamnton Crew. It was a beautiful day for races, sunny and barely a cloud in the sky. Nearly every boat from Binghamton placed in the race received a top 3 spot. The women's novice four received a second place medal along with the men's novice eight. Both the women's varsity 8 and men's varsity pair placed 2nd in their races. The women's novice eight placed 3rd, while the women's varsity four placed 5th. This is the most successful Metropolitan Regatta for Binghamton yet! Other institutions that were involved: SUNY Albany, Fordham University, NYU, SUNY Geneseo, Russell Sage College, Canisius College, Hofstra University, Sacred Heart University, Dowling College, Iona, Sarah Lawrence, Fairfield University, Manhattan College, Stony Brook, USMMA, and your own BU BEARCATS!

OUTDOORS:Sunday’s rafting trip was totally insane. 50 degree weather, down
pouring rains, smashing into rocks on Class 3 rapids, and loosing Jared’s paddle in the white water, were all part of the experience.

The rafting trip most likely will be Lauren Shapiro’s (our dedicated and
motivated VP) last event with BOC.

RUGBY (WOMEN'S): The women's rugby club had their final tournament of the season at THE UPSTATES TOURNAMENT. This tournament decides the seeding for the Fall season. The first game against Brockport was a win determined by a single penalty kick, final score Binghamton 3 and Brockport 0. The loss to U. Buff. was also due to a penalty kick, final score University of Buffalo 3 and Binghamton 0. The low scores were a result to poor field conditions and closely matched teams. Overall, this tournament leaves the BU Women's Rugby Club in great condition for the Fall season.

VOLLEYBALL (MEN'S): [PICTURES FROM TOURNAMENT] On Saturday, April 24th, members of the Men's Club Volleyball team brought Gold home to Binghamton University. Pete Homyak, Dave Smith, Bill Stubbs and Joe Style traveled to Buffalo to compete in the 20th Annual Oozfest Mud Volleyball Tournament. They played under the name, "Crazy Aces."

Oozfest is a mud volleyball tournament in which 128 teams and over 1000 people compete in a double elimination tournament. It originated in 1984 with only 16 teams, but is now UB's biggest event. Games were played in up to 18 inches of mud. "You had to duct tape your shoes on so they wouldn't get lost," said setter, Dave Smith. Pete described an incident in which Joe fell in a two foot deep hole before the first game even started. "It was hilarious; he was covered in mud", said Homyak. By the end of the day, every player was covered in mud. Dave described how the ball itself felt like it was 15 pounds. Homyak chuckled when he then described how he served one ball (that was covered in mud) directly into the back of Dave's head. Dave then picked up a handful of mud and through it at Bill because he was pointing and laughing. "The whole Day was a lot of fun. Right down to the last point," said Stubbs.

The B.U. men were captured on film by a local Buffalo News Station and all made comments. The mud was caked on and dried in the sun. "It's like a free exfoliation," said Style. Their interview was interrupted when they were called to play their next match.

The B.U. men went undefeated in Pool play, winning six matches. The men were the USAB bracket winners and advanced to the championship pool. They were undefeated in the championship pool, winning three more matches, including a close final with a score of 15-14. "We had to win", said Stubbs. "We drove all the way up here at five in the morning. We were cold and muddy. When we made a diving play or great save, we were greeted with a face full of mud", he also added.

In addition to individual medals, a huge trophy, and about $500.00 in prizes, the Crazy Aces received an automatic free bid into next year's tournament. "It's a perfect way to end our college career. Pete, Dave, and I are graduating and are really going to miss all of the club players," said Stubbs. The trophy can be seen in the display case in front of the club sports office at the East Gym.

LACROSSE (MEN'S): Binghamton University Lacrosse defeated the Bombers of Ithaca College 9 to 3 on Sunday, April 25, 2004 in a driving rain storm. The win helped the Bearcats secure homefield advantage for the NCLL playoffs. The first playoff game is slated to start at 6:00PM on Tuesday, April 27, 2004, on the East Gym Field #9. The Binghamton Club will take on Kutztown University.

ULTIMATE FRISBEE: Sat., April 24, 2004 ~ BU Ultimate Frisbee traveled to Skidmore College for a day tournament. At the end of the day, the Club squeaked by with a 2 and 2 record. Beating Skidmore B club 15 to 8, losing to Skidmore A club 15 to 9, beating Williams College 15 to 4 and ending the day losing to Chesapeake 7 to 5. The weather was windy and very sunny. The club is hoping to increase participation numbers for the Fall Season.

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: APRIL 12, 2004

RACQUETBALL:The Binghamton University Racquetball Club hosted the Eastern Collegiate tournament this past weekend. Participants traveled from various institutions, such as: Clarkson University, Penn. State University, Nichols College, Bryant College, Binghamton University and a few others. This tournament was the largest racquetball tournament hosted here at Binghamton University. Even though the BU Racquetball Club didn't fair to well, they definitely received the experience to improve the club for next year. The event was a three day event involving 80 to 120 participants and fans. [PICTURES] [VIDEO CLIP]

RUGBY (WOMEN'S):
The 3rd annual Scrumstock went very well with the host institution Binghamton University She-devils winning the entire tournament on Saturday, April 17, 2004. Institutions that were involved in the tournament were as follows: Syracuse University, SUNY Oneonta, Ithaca College, Binghamton University, and Colgate University.[PICTURES]

CREW (MEN'S & WOMEN'S):
The 7th annual Busfield Memorial Regatta ended with Binghamton University taking 5 out of 7 of the races. For the final results, please visit row2k. Busfield Memorial Regatta involved a variety of teams stemming from Scranton University, Clarkson University, State University of New York At Albany and Binghamton University. The turnout was unbelievable with parents and students cheering the schools on. The men's Varsity Eight squeaked through with a win at the end by only 3 seconds above SUNY Albany. [Pictures] [Video Clip]

LACROSSE (MEN'S):The Binghamton University Club Lacrosse team lost to the Syracuse Club Team 6 to 11. Binghamton came out strong in the first few minutes of the first quarter, but quickly fell a part. Syracuse netted 5 quick goals against Binghamton's 1 to take a quick lead. Binghamton was able to hold the Orangemen to 2 goals in the second quarter going into the half down 1 goal to 7.

At the start of the third quarter it appeared that the Bearcats had woken up. A fire was lit in the hearts of the players and the bearcat defense stoned the Syracuse attack allowing only two goals in the third quarter to Binghamton's 5. At the start of the 4th quarter the score was Binghamton 6, Syracuse 9. Although the Bearcat defense was able to contain the Syracuse offense it was not enough to win the game. Syracuse continued to score 2 more goals winning the game 11 to 6.

With the exception of the first and parts of the second quarter Binghamton came out strong. The intensity was on the field and duly noted in the third and fourth quarters of the game. Binghamton attack men Mark Sweeney and Sean Brown both had an excellent game as they constantly broke through the Syracuse defense and headed toward the goal. Former goalie now midfielder Mark Frederick came out strong scoring one of Binghamton's goals in the second quarter of the game. Rookie goalie Josh Dunn had an outstanding second half performance saving many Syracuse shots and keeping the bearcats in the game.

Looking ahead the Bearcats are very excited about their 3 game tournament in Cortland against Cortland, Hobart, and Cornell on Sunday April 18th. This is a very important weekend for the Bearcats, for it will decide which team advances to the NCLL playoffs

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: Spring Break '04 March 29 to April 11, '04

VOLLEYBALL (MEN'S):
The Men's Volleyball Club won the D-III Silver Championship in the National Collegiate Tournament over Spring Break. The Bearcats competed Wednesday, April 7th, through Saturday, April 11th at the Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina. Eleven Bearcats traveled to the Tournament in Carolina to compete with the other 230+ teams. They were:

Sam Agosa
Max Morrison
Evan Bigam
Brian Schick
Ray Chiu
Dave Smith
Evan Gluck
Joe Style
Pete Homyak
Bill Stubbs
Luis Miranda

After pool play on Thursday and Friday, the Bearcat men qualified for the Silver Championship Bracket. Saturday's play was single-elimination. In the quarter final, the men defeated Montgomery College two games to one (Scores: 28-26, 20-25, 15-13). Huge kills were made by senior weak side hitter, Luis "Deluxe" Miranda, and sophomore middle hitter, Evan Gluck. Luis and Evan were able to run their favorite play, "the Shocker", because the Bearcat men made consistent perfect passes to the setter, Dave Smith, throughout the entire tournament. "We gave Dave a lot of options. Even our digs off hard hit balls were perfect," said the president of the club, Pete Homyak.

In the Semi-Finals, the men defeated Western Washington University two games to one (Scores: 22-25, 25-20, 15-11). The 6'5" senior, Bill Stubbs (nicknamed "the Animal" by his teammates), put up an awesome display of blocks and kills set up by senior setter, Dave Smith. The duo ran a play called "the Stutter" which dominated most teams that the Bearcats played. "The Stutter" is a play in which Bill takes a quick approach to the net, but doesn't actually jump. He fakes the jump, causing the opposing blocker to jump early. Bill then jumps as his opponent is descending and has an open net to pound the ball straight to the ground. "It's great because it's humiliating to the other team," said Style.

The Finals, the most exciting match of the tournament. The Bearcats defeated last year's Silver Champions, The University of Wisconsin (Oshkosh), two games to one (Scores: 25-19, 12-25, 16-14). On the last few points, Pete Homyak pounded balls through their blocks and psyched the entire team up. "We just wanted it more. We were louder, faster, and played harder. The girl's team stayed and cheered us on as well. That definitely helped," said Stubbs. Dave Smith said the highlight of the tournament was when they ran "the Stutter" and Oshkosh's double block yelled, "Oh poop as they were descending and saw Bill coming in for the kill. "We had to have gotten them 11 or 12 times with that play," Smith added.

The Bearcats overcame what they called their "third game curse" during the tournament. Prior to the National Tournament, they've never won the third game in a match. They ended that streak though because every one of their victories ended with a decisive third game win. The Men look forward to next year's tournament in which they will be guaranteed a spot as well as a higher pre-tournament ranking

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: MARCH 22, 2004

EQUESTRIAN:
The team rode consistently well. Sandra Ahearn placed 8th in her flat class, and 7th out of 10 in her over fences class. Karen Rabinowicz placed 5th out of 15 in her Advanced Walk Trot Canter Class. Emily Creo placed 3rd in her Walk Trot Class and Barbara Ehlen placed 1st, winning the Walk Trot Regional Champion Trophy. Both Emily and Barbara will compete at ZONE Championships on April 9th for a chance to go to Nationals. The team finished the season 8th out of 11 in their Region.

LACROSSE (WOMEN'S):
On Sunday, March 28, Women's Lacrosse traveled to Colgate University looking for there first win of the semester. Within the first 5 minutes of the game, one of the clubs' strongest players was injured. Another teammate went with her to the hospital, which left them with only one substitute. Trailing for the majority of the first half. The goalie, Allie Steinberg let up 10 goals, but had saved 6. By half-time, the score was 10-0. In the second half, at half the club made a switch in an attempt to try a new goalie, Bridget Minehan. Bridget had 3 saves, and only let in 4 goals. The Club pulled together for the second half of the game. Mary O'Hara scored the first and only goal. Tracey (injured) had x-rays taken. No bones were broken, but she will have to wear an air-cast for the next two weeks. Final score Colgate 14 and BU 1.

LACROSSE (MEN'S):
The club traveled to Endicott High School to take on Binghamton's semi-professional team. The final score, Royals 10 and BU 4.

RUGBY (WOMEN'S):
The Pittsburgh Rugby Classic was the Binghamton University Women's Rugby Club's first tournament of the season and hopefully an indicator of good things to come for the rest of the year. The team competed admirably against nationally ranked women's rugby teams, such as The Ohio State University and Vassar College. Though the team won only one of its three games during the tournament, the performance by the girls showed a lot of promise. Many new players got their first taste of the sport, with each rookie playing at least half of each game. The first game pitted The Ohio State University against Binghamton University ending with OSU winning 17-0, with only a single try scored in the first half of the game with the full a-side team. Despite the loss the girls played well against the nationally competitive team. Binghamton University had their first victory of the season in the second game against a long time rival, Syracuse University with a final score of 15-12. The third game ended in a loss to Lock Heaven University with a score of 12-17. Binghamton dominated the first half of the game with a half time score of 12-0 against a strong team. The date, early in the season, caught up to them though, when Lock Haven made a come back in the second half of the game. As a whole, though, the team played well together for their first time out. Continued practice through the season should strengthen the team for a strong showing at the League Championships in late April.

VOLLEYBALL (MEN'S):
The Bearcat men lost to Albany and Geneseo Community College, but shookup their lineup in what proved to be an amazing change. The club has a new starting rotation that includes setter, David Smith, lining up with power hitters Joe Style and Evan Gluck. On the other line, the 6'5" animal, Bill Stubbs is between Peter Homyak and Luis Miranda, nicknamed, "Deluxe". The new lineups destroyed the number one seeded Houghton College. The Club is extemely excited about the new lineup, only regretting that they didn't attempt it sooner. The Club ended the weekend with a 1 - 2 recorded. The Men's and Women's Clubs travel to Charlotte, North Carolina for NIRSA Nationals.

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: MARCH 15, 2004

CYCLING:
At Columbia University, William was the only finisher - finished 16 out 55 in the Men's Collegiate C. Jason received flat on the 14th lap and Jeff received a flat on the 3rd lap leaving them out of the race. Mike did not finish due to being lapped. The race overall was crazy! After the dust cleared and the race was complete they discovered a tremendous amount of individuals had either fell, crashed, or ended up with a broken bike. In day 2, the club traveled over the river to Princeton University, where Jeff and Bill did not race. Jason was in the top pack until he crashed 2 times in the 7th lap due to individuals in front of him falling. Overall, the club looks to improve on the next trip.

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: MARCH 8, 2004

CYCLING:
This trip was a chance for the Cycling Club to enjoy some warm weather and hit some awesome trails in North Carolina. We stayed in Asheville and went to the Pisqah National Forest 3 days in a row. There we found a plethora of backcountry trails and access roads to ride around on. The most exciting trail was Black Mountain. This trail was two and half hour climb up the mountain and only 40 minutes to get back down. At the top, they stopped for a few hours and had lunch. The weather was perfect and temperatures were in the mid-60's and sunny. Good Ole' Carolina Blue!

EQUESTRIAN:
The Equestrian club came out of Hartwick with a total of 23 points. There were many individual accomplishments, including 2 riders qualifying for Regionals. The club placed ninth out of 11 colleges present but left pleased with all the individual performances. Next stop for 6 of the club participants is SUNY MORRISVILLE March 27, 2004 at Regionals.

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: MARCH 1, 2004

LACROSSE (MEN'S):
It was a moral victory for the Bearcats, knowing that they can compete with a Varsity team. The Bearcats led for the majority of the game dominating the B.C.C. Hornets' offense with a solid defensive stance. Going into the half it was a new game 2-2. BU never regained the lead after the half. In the end, it was the Hornets scoring a goal, the Bearcats answering right back, but Broome closed the door with 1 final goal in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats called their final timeout with just 12 seconds remaining, but could not capitalize, losing the scrimmage 4 to 5.

EQUESTRIAN:
Highlights from this past weekend were Sandy Ahearn pointing out of Intermediate flat into Open flat. She is the first BU student to start in NOVICE and work her way up to Open. Karen Rabinowicz placed second in her first Novice class ever, Barbara Ehlen placed second in her walk trot class and qualified for regionals. Kristina Connolly won her Intermediate on the flat class, and Rachel Pech won her Novice over fences class (for the second week in a row). Both girls were point riders, and each earned seven points for their team. The team finished 8th out of 11.

OUTDOORS:
This weekend the Outdoors Club went for a small hike and climbed a 80 ft. Eastern Hemlock. Six-(6) attended this re-treat. At the top of the tree they hung-out and had a wonderful view of the Campus.

VOLLEYBALL (MEN'S):
The event was very successful. There were many aces by Pete Homyak and Bill Stubbs. Dave Smith was big with assists, and Joe Style made some key digs and huge kills along with Pete and Bill. Other institutions that attended the tournament were: Cornell University, Clarkson University, Union College, University At Albany, and SUNY Cortland.

KICKLINE:
This weekend the Binghamton University Kickline performed at the Men's Basketball Conference Tournament in Boston. The club of 13 girls, performed during a timeout, at half-time and also participated in the Kids' Zone event run by Boston University and the American East Conference. This event provided several activities, games, and performances for the many children at the tournament. The game was intense and the Kickline Club led the crowd in cheering for the BEARCATS!!! Binghamton was unable to advance to the next round of the tournament, losing by 2 points in overtime. Nonetheless, everyone had a great time and there was an excellent display of BU SCHOOL SPIRIT!

VOLLEYBALL (WOMEN'S):
The BU Women's Volleyball Club came out slow and came back strong in the second game to win! Both teams played hard & strong. Both A Club and B Club beat Colgate University to advance into playoffs. Overall, both clubs performed beyond the expectations they had set out for. Institutions involved in the tournament: Colgate University, Binghamton University, University At Albany, University of Delaware, and Cornell University.

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: FEBRUARY 23, 2004

RACQUETBALL:
The BU Racquetball Club represented Binghamton University at it's biggest tournament yet, the ECRC Regionals, with over one hundred players competing from fourteen schools. The competition was fierce, resulting in a second round loss for most team members and placing them into the blue bracket of their respective division. None the less, the team still managed to place eighth behind heavyweights such as Penn. State, Clarkson University, and Bryant and earned themselves a seeding at Nationals.

ROLLER HOCKEY:
The Bearcats went 1-2-1 this weekend in Feasterville, Pennsylvania, losing to Suffolk Community College (13-2) and the University of Delaware (7-6). The 'Cats also beat Rutgers University (5-2) and tied nationally-ranked Towson University (6-6).

EQUESTRIAN:
The BU Equestrian Club finished very competitively at their show on Sunday, being tied for 4th out of 11 teams. All riders rode well in their individual classes. Highlights were Dana Rubino winning her Open Flat Class, Rachel Pech receiving 1st and 2nd respectively in her Over Fences and Flat Class, and Barbara Ehlen placing 1st in her walk-trot class. All the competitors rode exceptionally well, which was reflected in the teams high placing at the end of the day. (Institutions at the event: Colgate University, Cornell University, Ithaca College, RPI, Siena, Hartwick, Hamilton College, SUNY Cobleskill, and SUNY MORRISVILLE.

CREW:
The Bucknell Erg Armageddon, held every year in Bucknell's gymnasium, was an event full of lactic acid, sweat, and breaking personal goals. The Binghamton Crew club experienced several personal victories over the course of the day. The Erg Armageddon is an individual fight against your mental ability to push yourself to the next level. Two thousand meters on the ergometer ranges from 6 to 9 minutes depending on strength and ability. Though time seems short, it certainly isn't when you're sitting next to a bigger athlete than you attempting to keep up with them and not passout at the same time. The BU Crew Club accomplishment of the day was Shaun Brown, earning a second place finish in the Men's Novice Open Weight 2000 meter event and a third place finish in the men's novice Open Weight 500 Meter event. (Other Institutions Participating: Bucknell University, Lehigh University, Penn. State University, and Susquehenna University.)

RESULTS FROM THE WEEK OF: FEBRUARY 16, 2004

Although unsuccessful at accomplishing this, BU had a very strong showing in every game played (a total of 10 games). BU entered the second round after playing 6 of the 10 teams in 6th place. The team was able to enter the elimination round after a successful 2nd round of play and was eliminated after their 1st game in the round leaving BU in 4th place in the tournament overall. Teams that attended this tournament were as follows: Hobart College, Binghamton University, Clarkson University, and Ithaca College.
